Portfolio Website Release

26 May

The website is finally up! I had fun with adding new styles as I did the final day. What was originally basic green headers became a use of z-index and divs looking like tabs in a book. I debated on whether I should make them a colour or just white and I ended up leaving them white.

I also, in the end, decided to include a contact form while I had debated on. If I find spam issues rise again like last time, I’ll either look for a way to stop it or just remove it again. But I’m VERY happy with the styling and how it matched with the site.

I happy with the sites size flexibility and browser compatibility. I’m happy with the small amount of colour and the use of box shadow effects to get things to pop rather than nonsense design.

I might take out the divider in the about section or I might leave it. I’m pretty satisfied with how the gallery turned out and if I change anything, it’ll be what the font is for headers. I still might add a very faint design to the bottom of the main column div but that’s not important.

The group of social network buttons are no longer while, like I originally planned, and are now coloured specifically to fit their site. They are not exact pulls from their colours but gradients I put together using a base simillar to theirs and then another colour I felt would work well with it. There is also some css3 affect that Jason Fever once showed me. I looked for it and added it for it’s hover effect. Note that it, unfortunately, doesnt work in IE. I’ll look into a different effect for IE.

When I have the money, I’ll make sure to add my saved CSS for this wordpress blog as well, as it’ll make sure it fits even better with the site. For now it’s white background and boxes, coloured text, and natural icon and link colours it uses fit the site pretty well. So it’s not a big concern yet.

Portfolio Development: Week 4

24 Jan

On to the fourth week of the final quarter at CATO and the development on the design and organization of the portfolio book and website is slow but steady. For now. I would say the portfolio is moving slower but I’ve yet to begin code for the website so I suppose I can’t really determine that yet. At this point the site’s wireframes and organization plans for the databases, pages, and content are prepared but the final design isn’t complete. At the same time the logo is complete but the business card is just being tweaked now.

I am doing what I can to do projects fit for the portfolio as well, having two Mucha themed pieces on their way soon and trying to consider Graphic Design content. I have a few example from my course, however they aren’t as high quality as I’d prefer and I believe I need some better examples. There aren’t many fake companies or freelance clients I’ve created these for so I’ll have to come up with some now. One I’ve considered is a cafe lan centre, which is more balanced between those two than a simple Cafe with internet or a lan centre with snacks. I’m thinking a place that is literally half a cafe, with a very dedicated spot with coffee and such things and the other half is very dedicated to the lan portion with it’s computers being high end and payment to time used on the internet and gaming. My ex boyfriend’s brother is planning to make a new lan centre since the old one I worked at shut down and I’d like to help him make a logo and brand for it but it’s quite in the future right now so I won’t be able to put it in the portfolio.

An idea is to choose random words and put them together to create an idea for a fake business or company to make a brand for. I may have to look up online for some form of random word generator, if there is such a thing.

Let’s Begin.

Where to start?

As I’m ending my second to last quarter and coming into the final one, I must consider my portolio, network, my website, and my development as an artist going into the business world. Blogging has not been much of a thing for me outside of writing fiction (Journals? Yes. Blogs? No.) but it’s like any News section on a website, except a bit more personal.

Blogging can become really open, and it’s important to remember the goal here. To lead along those following the process of my art and career. But who’s really listening, anyways?

To begin, I start with a single post. And we’ll see where it goes from there.

But as for something productive (besides wandering the house and cleaning bits and pieces, particularly the room):

A long time ago as I was stuck in an artistic rut, I came across something called the 100 Themes Challenge. I considered the idea but never got too far into it. Now, after some more practice and playing with different programs as well as wanting to try to develop different art for my portfolio, I think it’s a good time to get started.

Here’s the list. I already know which to start first. Note that none of this is in order, as that’s just limits my mind and imagination.
